In its effort to show the entire world Indian traditional dresses, India is going to hold country’s first ever Couture Week in Mumbai in Sep 16-21. The 12 top notch designers will be showcasing their collections. Sumeet Nair a fashion impresario commented that Couture Week was on the FDCI’s to-do list but it never happened, however now it will come upfront.
Mr Nair further said that over the years, traditional Indian garments have all but disappeared from fashion shows. He is of the opinion that Indian artisans known for their craftsmanship seem to have taken a back stage, and India needs to revive them again. Similarly, FDCI president Sunil Sethi commented that the event is a celebration of Indian designers.
According to reports designers Ritu Kumar and Rohit Bal will open and conclude the Couture Week. Other famous designers part of the event would be Anamika Khanna, Pallavi Jaikishen, Suneet Verma, Ashish Soni, J.J. Valaya, Manish Malhotra, Varun Behl and Manav Gangwani, Tarun Tahiliani, Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla.
