The auction for 3G and WiMax licenses will be held in India in December 2009. This information was announced via a notice on the website of India’s Department of Telecommunications.
The auction which had been scheduled to take place in January 2009 had to be put off due to the discrepancies of cost that had come up within the government officials.
The auctioning for the 3G licenses will start on Dec 7 whereas the bid for WiMax auction will be held two days after the completion of 3G bids.
Even though foreign investors can also be a part of the auctioning process, they will be able to operate the services only as a joint venture with Indian investors.
Four slots in the 3G spectrum will be auctioned which will have 22 service areas, whereas the fifth slot is meant for BSNL and MTNL service providers.
The final date for applications from bidders is Nov 13.
