India’s dream project, $35 laptop for educational purposes, is likely to get delayed due to the major contractor HCL not being able to raise the security deposit required by the government, sources said.

Sources today carried news saying that the order to HCL could get cancelled as it was not able to raise Rs. 60 crore security deposit amount required by the government in case of any tender. If the rumors are to be believed, then the country’s would-be revolutionary product, $35 laptop, would get delayed.

Neither the government nor the company has disclosed any details regarding this. But reports, citing credible sources, said that the government is already planning for another tender.

The laptop was unveiled in July last year with the objective of assisting school students and universities. “This is part of the national initiative to take forward inclusive education. The solutions for tomorrow will emerge from India,” Sibal had earlier said during the launch.

Besides, the country also planned to bring the price of the laptop to $10 in after sometime.
