The Indian chess players exhibited a brilliant performance at the Asian Youth Championships held at Tehran in Iran by clinching a total of 21 medals, including six gold medals. In the under 8 girls category, the winner was M Mahalakshmi as expected. Women International Master Padmini Rout, though, won the finals two games after some initial snags to grab the gold medal in the under-14 girls category.

P Uthra participating in the under 18 girls section was another impressive Indian player, who bagged gold. As far as the Indian male chess players are concerned, Diptayan Ghosh emerged victorious in the under 10 boys section.

In the under 12 section, Girish Koushik was the winner whereas Prasanna Rao won in the under 14 category. The score was a total of six golds for the Indian chess players in the 12 championships organized simultaneously. A notable feature is that there was not any category where the Indian participants did not win medals.
