Indian women won their opening match against Australia in the Women's Junior World Cup Hockey in Boston. The last minute goal by Monorama Devi gave Indians a 3-2 win over their opponents.
Ritu Rani and Monika Badran of India scored the other two goals in the 45th and 53rd minute.Australians Casey Eastham and Marnie Hudson scored two goals in the 31st and 60th minute.
Indians had a tough time during the first half but were back into the game in the second half scoring three goals.
The Australians, who finished fourth four years ago, had ten penalty corners. Indian goalkeeper Jasdeep Kaur thwarted the first four attempts but was finally beaten in the 30th minute with a drag-flick by Eastham as the Jillaroos took the lead by 1-0.
Australia began to lose out their speed as the game progressed in the second half. Rani fired the equaliser with a fine field goal in the 45th minute.
India kept the momentum going and broke the deadlock when Monika was brilliantly set up by Joydeep Kaur and she pushed her shot past custodian Ashley Wells.
Australia intensified their attack and drew level in the 60th minute.
India earned their fourth and final penalty corner when Rani Devi was obstructed in the circle in the 70th minute and Monorama converted the penalty corner into a winning goal. India will next play against Belarus.
