India’s Aditi Lahiri has been anointed as the head of a new faculty at the University of Oxford.

India’s Aditi Lahiri, an expert in linguistics whose work on Bengali dialects is well documented, has been appointed as the head of a new faculty at the University of Oxford. Lahiri is presently a professor of Linguistics at Oxford and will soon be heading Oxford’s new Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics that will be introduced from August 1 onwards. The work of Aditi Lahiri, 'A study of the Bengali dialect of the Kandi subdivision of Murshidabad' (1979) was published by the University of Calcutta. 
 
The soon to be introduced Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics at Oxford will comprise of a core of dedicated linguistics staff and will also receive assistance of other academics from related faculties. Remarking on her accomplishment, Aditi Lahiri said, ‘I am delighted to be heading the new faculty at such an exciting time. It will be a unique institution, combining general linguistics, comparative philology and phonetics, embracing members from various different departments.’
