Indian Railways will soon be launching special food outlets, called Jan Ahar, in railway stations across India. This initiative has been adopted by the Railways Ministry so that passengers would be able to avail food at reasonable prices.
The first four outlets will start functioning at Howrah, Bangalore, Chennai and Secunderabad later this month, with seven more hitting several other stations including Patna, New Jalpaiguri, Lucknow and Mysore in Devember.
This service from the Railway Passenger Services Committee will enable the people to avail food at prices from Rs 10 to Rs 35.
"These outlets will not be outsourced to private contractors. It will be run by IRCTC itself under the strict monitoring of the committee," said Derek O'brien, chairman of the passenger services committee.
While the Jan Ahar logo has been designed by a renowned designer, the colour combination of the outlet will be yellow and green.
"We have chosen the green and yellow colour to give a youthful and vibrant look to the outlet," he said.
“The uniform of the waiter will be also in yellow and green with a matching cap," O'brien said, adding that “every month three to four Jan Ahar outlets will be opening at important stations across the country."
