In the third round of the Meteksan World Cup archery meet convened at Antalya in Turkey on Thursday 29 May, the archery men’s team from India comprising Rahul Banerjee, Mangal Singh Champia and Jayanta Talukdar crushed Malaysia 218-215 to bag its World Cup maiden gold medal. In the semi-final round held earlier the same day, the Indian team had defeated the Chinese Taipei at 218-210.
In the very first round, India defeated Kazakhstan and then the USA before crushing the Chinese Taipei and finally Malaysia to secure their very first gold in the World Cup. This win was remarkable for the Indian men’s archery team, which failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, as it rivaled most of the Olympics bound team in this Meteksan World Cup archery meet.
