IT-BPO Industry association, Nasscom divulged on Friday, 11 April2008 that the Indian IT-BPO sector is heading for a slowdown this year. Som Mittal, President Nasscom however asserted that the worth $60 billion target of exports will be achieved by 2010 despite a slowdown in growth. Nasscom also laid out its six point program for fiscal growth 2008-2009 during the conference on Friday. The six point agenda included greater focus on collaboration, innovation, green IT, building communities for sharing best practices, societal development and education & skill building.
Ganesh Natrajan, the newly appointed Chairman of Nasscom on the slowdown mentioned that the sector is not setting for a deep recession and the deceleration will last only for another four to six months. The impact of the slowdown in the US is however still not clear, and may be obvious only after a time span of three to six months, said Mr. Pramod Bhasin, vice-chairman Nasscom. During the event, Nasscom also announced the appointment of Raju Bhatnagar as the vice-president of the association.
