Abhinav Bindra, who made India proud by winning the country’s first ever individual gold in the 10m air rifle event at the ongoing Beijing Olympic Games, will be award Rs 50 lakh by the Central government. President Pratibha Patil will be presenting him the prize money during the Arjuna Awards ceremony on August 29.

 

At statement issued by the sports ministry on Tuesday, August 19 informed that Bindra will receive the award from President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. It was after the historic win by Abhinav Bindra that Sports Minister MS Gill asked for the prize money, under the scheme of special award to medal winners in international sports events, to be hiked from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.
