Indian eves won the first match of the Women's World Cup cricket defeating Pakistan by 10 wickets at the Bradman Oval ground in Australia on Saturday (March 7). India won the toss and elected to field first. Indian bowlers displayed brilliant performance to wrap up the Pakistani team for 57 runs in 29 overs. Chasing a paltry target, India finished the match in 10 overs. Anjum Chopra (17) and stumper Anagha Deshpande (26) sealed the match for India with ease.
Rumeli Dhar was the highest wicket taker in the match with incredible figures of 8-5-7-3. Other Indian bowlers, Amita Sharma and Priyanka Roy took two wickets each while Jhulan Goswami and Gouher Sultana bagged one wicket each. Pakistani bowlers gave away 15 extras with 12 wide deliveries. The top scorer form Pakistan team was Sana Mir who tired to give some momentum to the innings but in the end perished after scoring 17 runs. Opener Nain Abidi was the second highest scorer with only 10 runs.
Three of the Pakistani players even could not open their accounts. Jhulan Goswami-led Indian women team is placed in Group B with England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Defending champion Australia is in Group A with West Indies, South Africa and New Zealand. Indian team played in the final of the last edition of Women's World Cup cricket.
