Indian challenge in the World Chess Cup ended after three of their Grandmasters lost their must-win games. Grandmasters Surya Shekhar Ganguly, Krishnan Sasikiran and Sandipan Chanda bowed out of the event losing their return games against their respective opponents.
 
All the three Indians lost their opening game and needed win in the return games to remain in the fray. Sandipan Chanda went down against Russian Dmitry Jakovenko who seized the initiative early in the middle game.The Russian gave no chance to the Indian and eventually captured the game.
 
Asian champion Ganguly faced Wang Hao of China who played black. Krishnan Sasikiran could have possibly agreed to a draw against Etienne Bacrot of France but finally could not succeed in his efforts.The other two stars ousted from the event were Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan and Russian Alexander Morozevich.
