According to Defence Minister A.K. Antony, the armed forces of India are "ever ready” for countering any threat posed for the nation.

"Armed forces every now and then review their preparedness. Whenever needed, they'll be ready to face any situation," said Antony, while addressing the reporters at the Naval Senior Officer's Conference 2009 being held in New Delhi.

"Our armed forces are ever ready to tackle any (security) threat," he stressed.

The Union Defence Minister was enquired on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cautioning the armed forces "to be equipped to deal with all threat scenarios", particularly in view of the escalating tensions in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Manmohan Singh had mentioned that the intelligence reports suggest the chances for imminent attacks. "He has alerted the armed forces in his own way," said Antony added but did not mention any threats from Pakistan and the growing Taliban threat in Afghanistan.

The defence minister had earlier expressed concern over the spread of terrorism and noted that the situation in Pakistan was "very serious".
