India won their first bi-lateral ODI series in Sri Lanka when they defeated Sri Lanka by 46 runs in the fourth match of the series. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India made 258 runs in 49.4 overs. The leading scorers for India were Suresh Raina (76, 78b) and Dhoni (71, 80b). The two were involved in a partnership of 143-run for the fourth-wicket. Makeshift opener Virat Kohli made a brisk 54 for India. For Sri Lanka, Thushara bagged five-wickets.
After, Dhoni and Raina's partnership India seemed set to post a grand total but lost their way in the slog overs and could fetch just 43 runs in last ten overs. Sri Lankan team with its left-hand batsman Sanath Jayasuriya seemed dangerous Jayasuriya with quick fire 60 runs and frustrated Indian bowlers and fielders. However, Harbhajan Singh who was brought in as change got rid of Jayasuriya when he was caught in slip position by Suresh Raina.
