After a gap of 33 years, Team India scripted history in New Zealand by winning the Hamilton Test comprehensively by ten wickets. With this win, India leads the three Test match series by 1-0. In their second innings the Indians were chasing a mere total of 39 runs to win this match. Opening duo of Gautam Gambhir (30 not out) and Rahul Dravid (8 not out) completed the formalities in just 5.2 overs.
Sachin Tendulkar was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant century (160) in the first innings, which helped India to put a mammoth total of 520 before the host team. Earlier, trailing by 241 runs, the hosts were out for 279 in their second innings today (21st March). Wicket keeper batsman Brendon McCullum was top scorer for New Zealand with his brilliant 84-run knock on the fourth day.
The architect of the Kiwi demolition was off spinner Harbhajan, who came up with a six-wicket haul by giving only 63 runs in his 28 overs. Other Indian bowlers Munaf Patel and Zaheer Khan supported him by taking 2 and 1 wicket respectively. With his first innings haul of one wicket, Singh took 7 wickets in total in this match.
