The telecom sector in India is predicted to see a significant boom in the time to come, say experts. It is expected that the mobile phone user base in the country will touch the 500 million mark by 2010, enhancing connectivity among its burgeoning population in the process. Furthermore out of the 500 million users by 2010, about 60 million will possess mobile video capability whereas 100 million will opt for music services on their cell phones.
D Shivakumar, vice-president and MD of Nokia India, predicts that half of the subscribers then will surf the web on their cell phones, thus opening up ample opportunities for advertisers. The Nokia Company’s MD further underscored that the market will probably get divided into three sections. These will include the premium customers of about 50 million in number, the mid-range consisting of about 150 million subscribers and the final group dominated by low-cost basic handsets.
