A meeting between Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and US under secretary of state for political affairs, William Burns, was held on Thursday for discussing the development of India-US education council so that the bilateral ties between the two nations can be improved.
The US delegation led by Burns conveyed that many American universities are keen to know about India's road map for the education sector.
"The areas of collaboration that the two sides are looking at include research, distant education, vocational education, skill development, exchange of faculty, models of public private partnership and also expertise for the setting up of universities," a human resource ministry official said.
The meeting has been held days before the visit of Manmohan Singh to the US. Sibal will also be visiting US later this month.
Sibal will be holding discussions with policy makers as well as other officials. He will also meet the American universities’ envoys for discussing on the same.
"The framework of the proposed India-US Education Council is to be crystallized in this visit," the ministry official added.
