Asiavision song contest, the Asian version of the Eurovision annual song contest, is going to take place in 2009. This time, India is going to participate in the competition. Other contestants will come from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. Auditions to select the entries from the participating countries will be held in the early half of next year. The venue for the three-hour long grand finale is yet to be decided. As per the media reports, the show will be telecast in the participating countries.

Asiavision, the organizer of the event, said that unlike Eurovision this song contest arranged by it would feature existing pop stars. Describing it as 'the olympics for music', spokesman Mishal Varma said that they are aiming at having established artistes.  He added that discussions have been carried on with Eurovision regarding the idea and that partnerships would be formed with broadcasters in each of the countries participating in the contest.

The concept of Asia vision song contest took shape in 2007 when the European Broadcasting, producer of the Eurovision song contest, announced that it was selling the format to an Asian company which would conduct similar contest in Asia. Eurovision is a contest held by the active member of European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The competition has run for 53 years.
