India will face Japan in the finals of the Asia-Oceania junior Davis Cup. India defeated Australia in the semi finals 3-0 on Friday, May 3, 2008. Saurabh Singh and Yuki Bhambri defeated their opponents Jarryd Chaplin and Maverick Banes in straight sets to give India an impregnable lead of 2-0. Later Maverick and Jarryd cited medical reason for backing off from the doubles match.
Saurabh defeated Jarryd Chaplin 6-3, 6-3 whereas Yuki beat Maverick Banes 6-4, 6-2. Both Saurabh and Yuki displayed fine tennis to come on top of their rivals. Saurabh played exceptionally as a result of which he won the first set. Though Chaplin tried to come back in the second set and had some close calls, but ultimately Saurabh defeated him by his aggressive play.
Meanwhile Maverick Banes did give some jitters to Bhambri in the first set by effecting a break in the first game but Bhambri recovered well to induce the all important break in the tenth game to win the first set. Bhambri comfortably won the second set by breaking Banes in the sixth and the eighth game. Earlier Japan defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 in another semi-final.
