Starting Saturday the injury prone Indian cricket team take on Proteas to protect their number one Test Team’s status. The two teams are expected to play a two test match test series.
A series win should confirm India’s position on the top of the ICC Test ranking or even a draw series would be enough for the hosts to retain their top slot. The top status would entitle them to $175,000.
Well all that said, the Indian team has a injury prone middle order which includes names like Rahul Dravid and the explosive Yuvraj Singh both of whom would be making no appearances in this series.
More bad news could be under way as there is uncertainty over VVS Laxman who even though named in the squad is yet to recover completely from finger injury.
Meanwhile Rohit Sharma has been asked to stay back as a cover for VVS Laxman. India could be playing the debutants in the form of Rohit, S.Badrinath and another rookie batsman Murali Vijay if VVS Laxman fails to pass the fitness test.
The biggest question though would be who would be occupying the number 3 spot in the absence of Rahul Dravid. The test series is likely to be a huge challenge for Indian captain who till date has a unbeaten record of not losing a Test Match as a Captain.
