India and Singapore have concluded the fifth round of the India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue in Singapore on October 8, 2008. The high level meeting was attended by Indian defence secretary Vijay Singh and his Singaporean counterpart Chiang Chie Foo. The main aims of the meeting are to review the status of the defence relationship of both the countries, identify future areas of cooperation and share mutual security concerns. The two-day annual dialogue between the nations also included talks on security issues of common concern and ways to strengthen defence cooperation.
Over the years, both the countries intensified their relationship as far as the defence polices are concerned. India and Singapore have inked a bilateral agreement in August 2008. Under this agreement, India has provided facilities for Singapore Armed Forces to conduct joint military training and exercises involving both armor and artillery in its country. In 2007, both the countries have signed an agreement which allowed the personnel of Singapore Air Force to acquire training at the Indian Air Force base at West Bengal.
Besides these, both the countries share defence technology. The military research and development organization of both the countries are involved in the operation. Meanwhile, the Singapore air force is supposed to come for training in India in the year 2009. According to the defence secretary of Singapore, the annual defence dialogue is very significant for both the countries for advancing the bi-lateral defence relation between the countries.
