Irked with the statement of UNCHR (UN High Commissioner for Human Rights) India has remarked that the statement was irresponsible and uncalled for. The Foreign Ministry is livid against the statement of UNCHR that there has been violation of human rights by J&K security forces in dealing with the unrest there. Also, the statement has come from a person who does not have any locus standi on the issue, as new UNCHR will take charge from September 1.

Foreign Ministry statement says that the timing of such statement will hamper India's interest; the UN human rights council meet in Geneva is due on September 8, and the remarks have given a new life to Pakistan which is sure to cash up the issue in a big way at the UN meet. Nirupam Sen, Permanent Representative, UNO is asked by GOI to lodge a strong protest with the secretary-general of UNO.

Senior GOI official said that India wants to convey in no uncertain terms to the secretary-general that India is thoroughly displeased with the remarks of UNCHR. The official said that India did not need any advice on protection and promotion of human rights of its citizens. However, UN Secretary General, Ban-Ki Moon has not given any statement on the issue of UNCHR's remarks.
