An agreement to build four new reactors for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant will be signed between Russia and India during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to India starting Thursday (December 4), said, Sergei Kiriyenko, head of the state nuclear power corporation Rosatom.
According to Mr Kiriyenko, Russia plans to sign an intergovernmental agreement with India on Friday to build another four reactors for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant. A Rosatom spokesman also said that Russia and India could also sign an agreement to supply Russian nuclear fuel to Indian nuclear power plants.
The two reactors for the Kudankulam plant in Tamil Nadu are being constructed by Atomstroyexport - Russia’s nuclear power equipment and service export monopoly.
During his second trip to a BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) country, in quick succession, President Dmitry Medvedev is likely to take up issues pertaining to economic ties with India amid the financial crisis. Medvedev will also discuss possibilities for expanded economic collaboration at an annual Russian-Indian summit during the three-day visit. Medvedev will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov.
