Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has asked the people to put aside the fears of terrorist attacks. He added that India is ready to face and provide a "swift and decisive" answer to such attacks in future.

“We are well prepared to counter any act of terror. There is no need to be alarmed,” said Chidambaram, who was addressing the media during the eve of the inauguration of 22 new police stations in Delhi.

He added that since India has been warned against potential terrorist attacks, the preparation levels of security forces have been enhanced.

"Don't present an alarmist picture. We are fully aware of the threats from across the border. We have good intelligence. We are taking preventive steps," he stressed.

Chidambaram added, “Our response will be swift…forces are capable of dealing with any situation.”

Chidambaram has an made the announcement after Israel had issued a warning to India regarding the plans of a ‘Jihadi’ outfit to launch more terrorist attacks in India. Israel, while issuing a travel advisory, added that Lashker-e-Toiba, which had attacked Mumbai, could be the mastermind behind these proposed attacks.

US had also issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against potential terrorist attacks. Australia’s Victorian state Premier John Brumby had also cancelled his planned trip to Mumbai fearing terror attacks.
