FIFA, which released the world football ranking on Friday, has placed India up 11 rungs to stand at 138.
India, who improved seven points to figure 149th with 134 points in the September ranking, now holds this position with a total of 160 points.
The improvement has been witnessed after Bob Houghton's men played fewer international matches.
Brazil is still the top in FIFA ranking with 1632 points whereas Spain, the Netherlands and Italy hold the second, third and fourth position.
Argentina, who recently qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, figured sixth, one step down Germany.
