India defeated New Zealand 2-0 to reach the ninth in the Women's Junior World Cup at Harvard University's Jordan Field in Boston on Sunday.

Rani Devi smacked in during 25th and 69th minutes. She is the leading Indian scorer with 7 goals.

The first half saw India holding the ball to itself with its players making daring ventures into the New Zealand defence. The Indian players also won the three penalty corners.

India scored its first goal in the 25th minute after Rani struck from the right flank and slotted it past the New Zealand goalkeeper.

Even though New Zealand gave their entire effort during the last few minutes, they failed as Indians were in a strong position.

The second half saw the New Zealand in a stronger position and four penalty corners were earned by them, but their bad luck, not even one was converted into a goal.

But they managed to restore parity pulling out their keeper Nicola Howes and inserting a kick-back.

But they were not able to sustain this strategy as India took the benefit from a turnover opportunity allowing Rani to score again in the 69th minute.
