The Indian side was in full form to exhibit its batting prowess in a crucial match on Thursday, July 3, against Sri Lanka. India clinched a six wicket victory against the Sri Lankans to enter the finals of the Asia Cup cricket tournament. It was a must win situation for the Indian side in order to reach the final of the Asia cup 2008 tournament, which too they will be playing against Sri Lanka.

India led by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni easily chased the 309 target with 19 bowls to spare. Sri Lanka electing to bat first had put up a score of 308 for the loss of eight wickets on board. The Indian top batsmen each contributed to the victory, with Gautam Gambhir scoring 68, MS Dhoni, 67, Suresh Raina 54 and Virender Sehwag 42. With the Indian side requiring just 47 runs from last ten overs, Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma hit the winning runs and reached 310/4 in 46.5 overs. India’s victory on Thursday extinguished Pakistan’s hope of making it to the finals and rendered the last Super Four match between Pakistan and Bangladesh inconsequential.

Brief Scores:
Sri Lanka: 308/8
India: 310/4
Man of the Match: Mahendra Singh Dhoni
