D Purandeswari, minister of state for human resource development, has proclaimed that India is developing $10 laptop. According to the minister, the research is already carried on at ISC-Bangalore, and IIT-Chennai. She was talking at e-India summit which is meant for IT development initiatives.
Once the laptop produced in to the market will be exemplary. Sometimes ago Nicholas Negroponte, a laptop maker had offered his cheap laptops to India, and Purandeswari had rejected the same for she is against any experiment on India’s students.
As of now, the cheapest laptop is priced at $188. On the other hand, Reliance Communications in its initiative in partnership with Negroponte covering 25,000 towns, and 6,00,000 villages in the country by 2008 will provide Net connectivity, backbone, logistics, and support to the OLPC.
