India beat West Indies by seven wickets in their last group match here on Wednesday, however the victory came late as the deciding factor of their fate was Australia’s win over Pakistan.
Earlier, Pakistan had qualified for the semi-finals and Australia after defeating Pakistan became the second one to qualify from the group A. New Zealand and England are the other semi-finalists from group B.
In the semi-finals, Pakistan will face New Zealand while Australia will take on England.
India had a little chance of qualifying for the semi-final as they kept a close eye on the match between Australia and Pakistan.
In their match, India started well with its bowlers Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar who took six wickets to demolish the West Indian frontline. Ashish Nehra was the most devastating one with his spell of 3-22. Praveen Kumar (3-31) and Harbhajan Singh (2-14) also supported well with their good spells.
In reply to 129 from West Indies, India also lost two quick wickets but a sensible play from Dinesh Karthik (34) and Virat Kohli (79 not out), helped them to reach the target.
Virat Kohli was adjudged man of the match for his valuable knock of 79 not out.
