President Pratibha Patil, who is on a three nation visit to the Latin American countries is currently in Chile. The Indian President arrived at Chile on Sunday, 20 April 2008 late at night from Mexico. She received a warm welcome from the high officials and members of the government of Chile.
During her visit, India and Chile will sign four pacts aimed at increasing south-south cooperation. The pacts will include an air services pact, an agreement on science & technology, an agreement on sports along with a pact on increasing cooperation between the two nations on Antarctica.
India has a permanent mission in Antarctica and wants to study the melting of ice-berg in the continent due to global warming. Chile has claim over a major portion of land in the ice-capped continent.
Under the agreement on sports Chile, would extend cooperation to help the Indian football team.
In the aviation sector, India and Chile will enter an agreement to initiate a code sharing between Air India and Chilean airliner - LAN.
