India on Thursday, June 26, 2008 beat Pakistan by six wickets on their home turf in the Asia Cup. It was Virendra Sehwag’s superb inning of 119 runs that led India to the smashing win over Pakistan at Karachi’s National Stadium. Sehwag seemed absolutely unconquerable as he aggressively played all the top Pakistani bowlers. The teams were playing the final Group B One Day International Asia Cup match on Thursday.
India overhauled Pakistan, who were at 299-4 with 301-4 even with 7.5 overs to spare. Sehwag and Suresh Raina’s successful partnership became the winning mantra for the Indian side. Sehwag scored 119 with 95 balls and Raina hit a 68 ball 84 during his stint on the field. Pakistan’s score had also seemed imposing with captain Shoaib Malik scoring 125 and Younis Khan coming up with a score of 59. The Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was however ecstatic after the win. The Indian skipper remarked that it was an important match and the victory was dual one as they beat Pakistan and also carry points forward to the next round.
