The 44th ODI Century by Sachin Tendulkar and the five-wicket haul by Harbhajan helped India to lift Compaq Cup. India defeated Sri Lanka by 46-runs to treat themselves with a cool win.

India had lost the top position in the ODI rankings after they lost to Sri Lanka by 139 runs on Saturday and were positioned third. But after this victory over Sri lanka in the final of the Compaq Cup, India set a target of 320 runs for Sri Lanka and bowled them out completely for 273 in 46.4 overs to repay their Saturday’s loss.

With an enormous 320-run target, Sri Lanka kicked off the chase perfectly with Tillakaratne Dilshan scoring 42 off 29 balls and Sanath Jayasuriya (36). But they soon lost the vigour. Down the lane, the 70-run partnership between Thilina Kandamby (66) and Chamara Kapugedera (35) was just an act to hide the nervousness of the team.

Harbhajan Singh had been the major destructor of Sri Lankan team with 5-56.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who won the toss elected to bat first and , gathered a huge score under the majestic batting of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, 138noff 133 balls, to lift the score to 319 for 5.

Tendulkar was able to gather 95 runs in partnership with Drvaid (39) and Dhoni (56), after which Yuvraj took charge to raise the score beyond 300.

With this win, India has moved back to second position in the ODI Rankings.
