After a gap of about 60 years, India and Pakistan have decided to start trading between their respective parts of Kashmir on October 21, 2008. The historic moment was marked by sending a convoy of 13 trucks carrying mostly apples from Kashmir in India to that of Pakistan. After that, Pakistan also followed the same line by sending 14 trucks containing fruits. Speaking on the occasion Kashmir's Governor N.N. Vohra said that it is a red letter day in the history of Indo-Pak relationship. Earlier Mr Vohra flagged off the convoy from Salamabad, 12 km away from Line of Control.

This historic trade between India and Pakistan is likely to help the economy of both Kashmirs to develop more rapidly. The J&K Governor also hoped that this move will enable to bring peace in the region. Pakistan's Kashmir chief, Atiqur Rehman said that the event will help make headway towards resolving the Kashmir issue.
