The naval forces of India and Indonesia will be conducting a joint patrol for two weeks for checking piracy, poaching, drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
"The purpose of the coordinated patrol is to prevent piracy, armed robberies, poaching, illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities," the official said.
14th edition of the coordinated patrolling is called Ind-Indo Corpat.
The ceremony will kick off at Belawan in Indonesia. The Indian bavy will be spearheaded by Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andaman & Nicobar Islands), Commodore P. Suresh. The event will come to an end on Nov 5 at Port Blair.
INS Mahish, which is a fast attack tank landing ship, will be deployed by Indian Navy along with INS Trinkat and a Dornier aircraft whereas a corvette and a Dornier aircraft will be used by Indonesian Navy.
The operation will be under the joint control of Vice Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command and Rear Admiral Soeparno Djasmin, the Commander of the Indonesian Western Fleet Command.
India and Indonesia share an international maritime boundary of about 300 nautical miles.
