The dream of Bihar to have an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) will finally get realized on Thursday, August 6. Classes will start the day after. It has been decided that till the time a special IIT campus readies on the outskirts of the Bihar’s capital city in the next two–three years, the IIT Patna will temporarily function from the polytechnic premises.
On August 6, the new IIT Patna will be inaugurated by the Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh. Confirming the news, the dean of IIT Patna Samrendra Dandpat, said, ‘The formal functioning of IIT Patna is all set to start with classes on Aug 7.’ The IIT at Patna is among the six news ones that will open up in the country.
The dean of IIT Patna further informed that 109 students have been admitted, who will begin classes from the coming week.’We will register the selected students on August 6 and classes will begin from next day, he said. The labs, hostels and classrooms of the institution are almost ready.
The polytechnic in Patna was selected by the state science and technology department as the provisional venue of the new IIT last year. The polytechnic has two hostels and a new building that can house around 200 students. The IIT Patna was visited by Nitish Kumar, the Bihar CM recently for inspection.
