JEE may be the toughest competition for thousands of IIT aspirants, but for IIT-Madras director, MS Ananth, it has failed to fetch the best talent in IITs. The issue may stir a national debate for its grave importance. Earlier also there has been concerned voices coming from many sectors about the performance of IITs and reasons behind its lacking in research.
Professor V G Idichandy, dean (students), IIT Madras, going one more step ahead said that JEE should be abolished for he thinks that one of the reasons for the poor intake of girls in the BTech program is that parents don't send daughters for coaching classes. The best way to increase the intake of girls is to have direct admissions, and for that JEE has to go away.
Both the intellectuals seemed unhappy with the current pattern of JEE. According to them under current examination curriculum the 12 years of schooling does not play any role which is important part of learning. Mr Idichandy stressed more on interpersonal skills of candidates and said that the student must have good communication skills besides engineering skills.
Ananth, and Idichandy, both were hammering on private coaching system, and according to them these are responsible for the ill of lack of talent in IITs. The duo believed that owing to coaching system IITs do not get raw talent and those students who can afford coaching crack JEE. Both of them were of opinion for paving a way to fetch raw talent through alternative examination system.
