While the plans to create eight more Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India are in the pipeline, the IIT at Gandhinagar in Gujarat is ready for inaugural on August 2 this year. Sources informed that the IIT Gandhinagar will commence with three specialization subjects and 103 students.

 

The soon to-be-opened premier engineering and technology-oriented institute in Gujarat will begin its operations from the Vishawkarma Government Engineering College (VGEC) in Gandhinagar. The IIT Bombay, which just celebrated its golden jubilee, has been given the responsibility to provide able guidance and study assistance to the new IIT Gandhinagar.

 

An orientation programme will be conducted on August 2 and from the very same day onwards will commence the four-year B Tech courses in chemical engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

 

As per information derived from IIT Bombay, the IIT Gandhinagar will have 31 students in chemical engineering, 37 in electrical engineering and 35 in mechanical engineering. ‘On arrival at VGEC, Gandhinagar, students will be provided with residential and other facilities at a temporary location,’ a source informed.
