Acquiring engineering cum management degrees, that too from a reputed institute, has long been viewed as the ideal combo for achieving success and high salary. The Indian Institute of Technology-
Out of the 2006 batch of graduates from IIT Bombay, around 41 per cent have taken up managerial jobs such as in finance and consultancy. At the same time in case a student has not been able to acquire a seat in the popular engineering or electrical engineering or computer science courses, then there is another opportunity.
He / she can opt for these courses as additional specialization alongside his core area. The IIT Bombay has rescheduled its academic year requirements by slashing the compulsory credits from 330 to 252 for its Bachelor of Technology programme. This has provided the IIT Bombay students room for inducting a minor area of their interest during the course of their study here.
Consequently after the completion of the first year, i.e. at the start of the third semester, the IIT Bombay students can select from a range of 17 minor courses. These comprise management, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental science engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, aeronautical engineering, civil engineering and statistics.
