The three-day International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) award ceremony kicked off in Macau on Thursday (June 11). Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan inaugurated the 10th edition of the prestigious event by planting a lotus flower, the official flower of both India and Macau. The 2009 IIFA event will continue till Saturday (June 13).
The 66-year-old veteran actor mentioned about the attention brought to India by the Oscar-winning British movie 'Slumdog Millionaire'. However, Big B stated that that Bollywood can tell its own stories with equal flair. Apart from Amitabh Bachchan, the inaugural ceremony of IIFA weekend was attended by son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. While addressing the inaugural ceremony, senior Bachchan said that India has as much talented people as found in other parts of the world.
He added that the Indian creativity is in no way less than creativity from any other part of the world. He believes that there are many other stories and ideas which needed to be explored. One the stars of 'Slumdog Millionaire', Ashutosh Lobo Gajiwala said that Indian films are more dramatic and express themselves with more color than the Hollywood films. Ashutosh played the role of Slaim in Danny Boyle's tale of rags to riches.
The IIFA event will see heartthrob Hrithik Roshan walking the ramp for Indian designers at a fashion show on Friday night. Actress like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor will perform in the extravagant cine event. On Saturday night, actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and others will compete for top acting honors.
