Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL)-owned MTS India has tied up with IBM for developing green data centres in India. Under the IT service agreement, IBM will design and build green centres in Chennai and Gurgaon. The installation of green centres will help SSTL to achieve 20 percent of energy savings. The new move is SSTL's part of pan India expansion plans for offering telephony services.
 
According to president and CEO of SSTL, Vsevolod Rozanov, it is very essential to adopt energy-efficient IT infrastructure. He added that the new move will not only help the company to save energy but will also reduce global energy emissions. He said that SSTL is very satisfied to pick IBM for the green centre project. IBM will deploy data centre solution that will offer the facility to scale the benefits of power and cooling automatically on the basis of load.
 
The global technology major will also set up a Network Operations Center (NOC) that will enable SSTL to monitor and manage applications and network round the clock. The telecom company is currently planning to launch its services throughout the country in the forthcoming months. IBM's association will help SSTL to fulfill its expansion plans with a green IT infrastructure.
 
As per Shanker Annaswamy, MD, IBM India Pvt. Ltd, IBM aims to help SSTL to grab the advantages of leading IT infrastructure solutions and assets. The Chennai unit will serve as the main data centre for SSTL, while the one at Gurgaon will serve as the disaster recovery site.
