Indo-US nuclear deal which is already in doldrums has not yet been approved by IAEA. IAEA, the world body responsible for regulation of nuke deals world over has decided to meet on 1st August to discuss the issue and give its approval for the same. India has already said that it needs Indo-US civil nuke deal badly to meet its energy demands.

IAEA is concerned about safety safeguards and security issue of nuke deal and for that matter it needs consultation with Indian side. India has to undersign safety and security agreement with this nukes regulatory body first, then only it can move any further. Post-IAEA approval the deal will go to 45 member nations, NSG, and approval from all would be needed.

India’s rising demand for energy can not be met by fossil fuels and it needs nuke energy. India has 14 nuke reactors in commercial operation and nine under construction. Currently India has 3% nuclear electricity of total of India's electricity. India’s long term goal is to increase it from 3% to 25% which is possible through nuke deal with US and other nuclear countries.
