Although India’s foreign minister Pranab Mukharjee ruled out the time line of nuclear deal, he showed positive indication towards NSG’s positive response on India’s nuke deal with US. The minister said that it is difficult to give the exact time frame, but hoped that India will get the support of all countries of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

45 member NSG is a concerning body of nuclear energy rich countries and their consent is mandatory for India’s entry into nuke deal with US. However, the fate of deal would depend on the first August’s meeting at Vienna where 35 members International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is convened to meet. The conference would be the discussion forum for India’s nuke deal.

Answering the question about NSG’s positive nod on Indo-US nuke deal, for which his government had to go for floor test, he said that he is positive about it. On the other hand US too has started taking steps in regard to nuke deal and has convened for a NSG meeting in the month of September which would deal with Indo-IAEA safety agreement deal to be held next month.

The nuke deal is still in half way and has to pass another hurdle in US Congress, and fate of Article 123 would be decided by majority voting of Congress members. David Mulford, US ambassador to India earlier has said that the voting in congress would take place in September month on the issue of nuke deal. India has put all its efforts to convince NSG members with its contention and has sent its diplomats for the purpose to meet with NSG representatives.
