The director general of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohamed Elbaradei urged to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue through dialogues. While interacting with the media at the sidelines of a conference on nuclear energy in Beijing, on Monday (April 20), ElBaradei stated that it is only through proper talks that the nuclear issue can be resolved. He feels that there is no other way to sort out the issue.
The IAEA director general stressed that the United Nations Security Council should step up to resolve the nuclear issues in Iran, North Korea and Cuba through composite dialogue. Last week, the IAEA inspectors in North Korea were asked to stop work and leave the country as soon as possible. The North Korean nuclear issue resurfaced when the country had launched a satellite on April 5.
Although North Korea claimed that it was a satellite launch, but US, Japan and South Korea viewed it as a front for testing ballistic missile technology. Following the allegation, the government of North Korea immediately ordered the IAEA officials to leave the country. However, Mohamed ElBaradei hoped that the officials will be allowed to resume work in North Korea.
