Hurricane Ike has caused landfall in Cuba; it killed more than 58 people in already devastated Haiti. According to the Cuban Meteorology Institute, blowing at 120 Miles/hour with heavy rains, the deadly hurricane caused landfall on the northeastern coast of Cuba on Sunday. Also, because of Ike the lone bridge that was the last land route for Gonaives in Haiti is collapsed.

Rising flood water in Haiti made people to take shelter on their roofs. According to Civil Defense Director of Haiti, Maria-Alta Jean Baptiste, after the recovery of three more bodies in Gonaives, the death toll in Haiti has reached to at least 319 from four storms that have hit the country in less than a month. Floodwater rushing into homes in the middle of the night crushed walls before receding on Sunday morning.

Northern coast of Haiti too is affected by storm rains, however, according to UN humanitarian aid coordinator there were no major flooding, deaths or evacuations. Haiti, probably the poorest country in the region is trying to cope with the situation of storm devastation and consequent hunger by augmenting methods to restore its agriculture production.
