Renowned human rights activist and lawyer K. Balagopal passed away in Hyderabad following a cardiac arrest. He was known for the battle he had led for the rights of the poor, tribal and labourers.
 
Balagopal, 57, passed away on Thursday night. He is survived by his wife and son.
 
Balagoapla, who was actually a mathematics professor, had raised his voice against Maoists as well as the state. He had even led the people against the police for duping the Maoists killings.
 
Praja Bandu, an outfit linked to the police, had abducted Balagopal demanding the release of two policemen seized by the rebels. Balagopal was released only after the abducted policemen were let off.
 
He had been under the threat of both the Maoists as well as the police. He had also led the cause of people displaced by Special Economic Zones.
