HP has partnered with Amazon to revive out-of-print books and help users create custom magazines through a unique rare book revival project. So The BookPrep service started by HP will make out-of-print books available to the public in any quantity.
HP is gearing up for the sale of rare books through its BookPrep service. BookPrep is a cloud computing service designed to facilitate the on-demand printing of books in any quantity. Amazon and University of Michigan will also join with HP in this ambitious project to restore the treasure of hundreds of books and magazines.
This is a healthy decision from a world leader as Google's book-scanning project faced serious disputes with the publishers and authors over the terms. Archive is also going to provide lakhs of books online.
"The synergy with Google is perfect," said Andrew Bolwell, director of new business initiatives at HP.
"A lot of people say the Internet is killing off print publishing; I beg to differ," Bolwell said.
He also said, "I think it's killing off old business models, but I firmly believe there are vast audiences that love print and turning pages."
According to Bolwell, BookPrep is based on an advanced technology that can produce a high-quality book in an affordable price. The Book Prep service uses cloud-based service which sharpens text and images from raw book scans along with improving alignment and coloration. It can also add new covers to the titles.
