Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said on Sunday that he was confident that the Maoists were receiving arms from China. This is the first ever time that an Indian top official was mentioning the involvement of China in providing arms to Maoists, who have been cited as the “biggest national security threat” by the Manmohan Singh.

Pillai, who was addressing the media in New Delhi, cited that Maoists follow the philosophy of Marxism and Leninism and have their own brand of ideology. The Chinese are large suppliers of small arms and I am sure the Maoists get it from them”.

But he had not divulged any information regarding the Chinese sources which were providing arms to the left extremists.

When asked if Government knew whether Maoists – China ties extended beyond the arms deal, he said "You should ask them (Maoists)."

He had cited earlier that Maoists of India shared relation with Maoists in Nepal, but he had also mentioned that there was the absence of clear evidences regarding the same.
