A S Gill has been named as the new director general of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) by the home ministry on Thursday (February 5). Apart from Gill, the ministry has also appointed P Mukerjee as the chief of the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D). A 1972 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) office, A S Gill will take the charge of the office of chief of CRPF from VK Joshi who will retire on February 28.
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Monday (February 2) cleared the name of AS Gill for the post of CRPF chief. Prior to his appointment as the CRPF chief, Gill was posted in the rank of Director General of Police in Rajasthan. The out-going chief VK Joshi brought in several changes including setting up of COBRA force to tackle left-wing extremism during his tenure.
Meanwhile, Vinay Kumar, a 1975-batch IAS officer has been appointed as Secretary Border Management replacing Jarnail Singh. Vinay Kumar was heading the Naxal Division in the home ministry. The ministry has also appointed a 1972 batch IPS officer, RK Bhatia as the director general of the National Disaster Response Force & Civil Defence (NDRF&CD).
