A new battle has ensued between Hollywood producers, represented by the Alliance of Motion Pictures & Television Producers and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). The Hollywood actors and producers are fighting with each other over use of movie and TV clips on the internet. The Screen Actors Guild Executive Director, Doug Allen remarked that the producers sought to evaporate actors’ rights to control the use of their images.
Both the sides are divided over residual payment for DVD sales and terms covering other internet content. Meanwhile, the producers have also blasted the Screen Actors Guild owing to its move of initiating talks with a smaller union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Arts (AFTRA). On Tuesday, May 6, 2008 the producers temporarily broke off all talks with Screen Actors Guild after eighteen days of negotiating. The producers have offered to reopen talks with SAG at a later date.
