The Goa Government has come up with a list of dos and don’ts for the safety and well being of the tourists and these will soon be displayed on hoardings at all tourist hot spots in the region. This bunch of directives has been issued following the rape and murder of 15 year old British teenager Scarlett Keeling and some more complaints by the tourists in Goa. One of the directives asks the tourists to inform the closest police station incase they notice the sale of drugs or any pedophile activity.
The noticeable part is that none of these dos and donts are new, but they shall now be exhibited on hoardings at all Goa beaches popular among foreign tourists in north Goa as well as outside hotels in coastal regions. One hears that each and every police station in Goa needs to ascertain that the said hoardings are displayed in their jurisdiction before August 31. Further on, one is informed that this step is being taken at the command of IGP Kishan Kumar. Among the dos, the foreigners need to register themselves with the Foreigner's Registration Office incase their visa allows them over 180 days of stay.
At the same time they can only employ those tourist-guides who are authorized for the job by the government and make sure that the ‘C’ form filled by them at the hotel reaches the closest police station. The list of don’t for the Goa tourists is rather short. For instance, it discourages tourists from indulging in trade/consumption of narcotic drugs or any pedophile activity, moving alone in isolated places late at night and not seeking lifts from strangers. The tourism industry has welcomed the move.
